  • Stephanie Bambury '09 Lands Prestigious Internship With Hockey East

    WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Recent Saint Michael's College graduate Stephanie Bambury '09, a three-year member of the Purple Knights' volleyball team, has been hired as the Hockey East Association's intern for the 2009-2010 season, it was announced on Monday. Bambury will assist in day-to-day operations in both the men’s and women’s league, which includes marketing and media relations efforts. The Hockey East Association is a 10-team NCAA Division I college men’s ice hockey conference, and an eight-team Division I women’s ice hockey league which began play in 2002-03.
  • Zaf Bludevich Named Recipient Of ECAC's Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award

    CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Saint Michael's College senior associate athletics director Zafir “Zaf” Bludevich has been selected as the recipient of the Dr. Donald Grover Memorial Award. The Donald Grover Memorial Award is bestowed periodically to an athletic trainer of an ECAC member institution who has achieved outstanding success in his or her career and has made an unusual contribution in the interest of intercollegiate athletics. The award will be presented on Tuesday, October 6, at the ECAC Honors Luncheon presented by Jostens. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2009 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show.
  • NE-10 Names 185 SMC Student-Athletes To Commissioner's Honor Roll

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Northeast-10 Conference recognized 185 Saint Michael's College student-athletes by naming them to the league's Spring 2009 Commissioner's Honor Roll, the NE-10 announced on Monday. At least three student-athletes from all 17 of Saint Michael's sport programs that compete in the conference were recognized, as Saint Michael's had the fifth-most honorees among the league's 15 members.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Recent Saint Michael's College graduate Matt Alexander '09 (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Second Team, it was announced on Thursday. Alexander is the only student-athlete from Division II to be honored in the District 1 College Division.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Recent Saint Michael's College graduates, Matt Alexander (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) and Mary Lynn Denholm (Sparks, Md./Saint Paul School for Girls), are the College's 2008-09 Institutional Scholar-Athlete honorees, the Northeast-10 Conference announced today. As a result, they are two of 30 finalists for the 2008-09 NE-10 Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year, with the winners announced on Monday, June 1, at the NE-10 Awards Banquet in Mystic, Conn.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Five legendary former Saint Michael’s College student-athletes will be inducted into the Saint Michael’s College Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in South Burlington. The event kicks off Alumni Weekend on campus, featuring three days of activities. The class includes: Rev. Raymond J. Doherty ’51, SSE; Robert Hoehl ’63; Thomas Kelley ’69; Jason Curry ’95; and Elizabeth (LeFebvre) Bushey ’03.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College Athletic Department announced the 2009 Block ‘M’ Award winners at its 62nd annual banquet on April 30. There were several awards handed out, including the Purple Knight Coach of the Year Award, and Coaches’ Awards for each of Saint Michael’s 21 intercollegiate varsity sport programs.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – A trio of Saint Michael’s College student-athletes - senior swimmer Alex Canning (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), junior women’s cross country/Nordic skiing student-athlete Lauren Fereshetian (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area), and sophomore men’s soccer player Rondel Ward (Saint George, Barbados/Harrison College) - have been picked to represent the College later this month at a pair of NCAA conferences in at Walt Disney World Coronado Spring Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., it was recently announced. Fereshetian and Ward will take part in the at the 2009 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference, while Canning will attend the inaugural NCAA Student-Athlete Development Coaches Forum.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The men’s lacrosse team was eliminated from the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament with a 14-13 loss to Saint Anselm College at home on Tuesday. The baseball team wrapped up their season by winning two of their last three games. The women’s tennis team will head down to Stonehill College to face Queens College (N.Y.) on May 7 for their second straight trip to the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championships.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The men’s lacrosse team capped off a 2-0 week by securing the fourth seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals, and will host fifth-seeded Saint Anselm College on Tuesday. The women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 last week and ended their season with a 19-10 win over American International College on Senior Day. The baseball team finished the week going 2-3, while the softball team’s season came to an end with a 2-4 week. The women’s tennis team suffered a 5-3 loss to Stonehill College in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The women’s tennis team ended the regular season on a four-match winning streak, while the men’s tennis team ended their regular season winning two of their last three. The women’s team secured the fourth seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and will host fifth-seeded Merrimack College on Tuesday, while the men also received the fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday. The softball team had a fine week going 6-2, while the baseball team finished 4-6. The men’s lacrosse team took a 1-1 split over the week, and the women’s lacrosse team went 0-3.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College baseball team completed a perfect 5-0 week, with all of its wins on Doc Jacobs Field. Both the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams split a pair of home contests on Duffy Field last week. Men’s tennis picked up a road win among its two matches, while women’s tennis and softball suffered narrow losses last week.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Five Saint Michael’s College student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom were among those inducted into the Gamma Chapter of Vermont of Phi Beta Kappa on Friday. The five scholar-athletes are: seniors Matthew Alexander (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union), Sara Biondello (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), Anna Florent (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) and Jonathan Kaptcianos (Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick), and junior Katelyn Billings (Saint Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Saint Albans).

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The men’s and women’s tennis team both picked up two victories each over Saint Anselm College and Pace University last week. The men’s and women’s lacrosse team both went 1-1, baseball fell to Franklin Pierce University, and the softball team dropped a close doubleheader to Southern New Hampshire University. The softball team also had two doubleheaders postponed this past weekend due to inclement weather, and will make up one of them this Friday at home with a time yet to be determined.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team and men's swimming and diving team were named recipients of the third annual Winter 2009 Sportsmanships Awards, the Northeast-10 Conference announced on Wednesday. The men's basketball team earned the honor for the second straight season, while the men's swimming and diving squad received the award for the first time. The program honors one team from each of the NE-10's 23 championship sports.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The women’s lacrosse team finished the week 1-1, including a three-goal overtime win at Assumption College. The softball team dropped two close doubleheaders to Southern Connecticut State University and Pace University. The men’s lacrosse team was defeated by nationally-ranked Bentley University on the road on Saturday, while the men’s and women’s tennis teams both came up short against Stonehill College. The baseball team was idle last week.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – It was a full and busy spring break last week for all of the spring sports teams at Saint Michael’s. The six teams that were down south on their respected spring trips combined to play in 33 games last week. The softball team finished 4-6, baseball finished 2-7, men’s lacrosse went 1-2, and women’s lacrosse went dropped both of their contests. The women’s tennis team went 3-2 over the week, while the men’s tennis team went winless.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - With all of the spring sport teams down south for spring break, the spring sports season is officially underway. On Saturday, the men's lacrosse team suffered an 18-1 loss to nationally ranked C.W. Post. Yesterday, the baseball team opened their season with a 12-11 victory, while the softball team dropped a pair to Dominican College. The men's and women's tennis teams both dropped their first matches of the week. Women's lacrosse will look to even their record with a contest between Rollins College tonight.
  • Spring Sports Teams To Play A Combined 33 Games During Spring Break

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College spring season begins in earnest this Saturday when all six of its spring teams – baseball, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s tennis – travel south to compete during the annual spring break vacation. The six teams will play a combined 33 games during the week-long break, from March 14-21. The men's and women's tennis squads will play a combined nine matches in Hilton Head, S.C., while the baseball, softball, and men's and women's tennis teams will each compete in Florida.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The men’s ice hockey team repeated as Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Champions on Saturday with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Stonehill College. The men’s and women’s lacrosse teams both opened up their seasons at home on Saturday. The men handled Dominican College, 13-1, while the women’s team fell to second-ranked Adelphi University, 21-1. This weekend the baseball and softball teams open up their seasons in Florida, while the men’s and women’s tennis teams open their seasons in South Carolina.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – With the winter sports season coming to an end, this past weekend was filled with postseason action. The men’s ice hockey team advanced to the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals with a win on Saturday, while the women’s basketball team saw their season come to an end with a first-round exit in the Norteast-10 Conference Tournament. The men’s swimming and diving team finished fifth at the NEISDA Championships, while the ski team ended their season with a 10th-place finish at the EISA Championships. The men’s basketball team ended their season on a high note with a 54-53 win on Monday, and the women’s ice hockey team dropped both contests in the ECAC Women’s Open Tournament over the weekend. The men’s and women’s lacrosse teams open up their seasons at home this weekend. The men face Dominican College (N.Y.) on Saturday at noon, while the women host nationally-ranked Adelphi University on Sunday at noon as well.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – With the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams honoring their seniors this past weekend, the winter sports season is winding down and teams are making their final push towards the postseason. The women’s ice hockey team went 1-1 over the weekend and closed out regular season play, while the men’s team suffered two setbacks on Friday and Saturday. The women’s swimming and diving team finished third at the NEISDA Championships, and the ski team finished in ninth-place at the Middlebury Carnival, both over the weekend. Both the men’s and women’s basketball team finished the week 1-1 and wrap up the regular season tonight at home. Tonight the men’s basketball team will honor their three graduating seniors.

The women’s ice hockey team started off the week with a one-goal victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Friday, but fell to in-state foe Castleton State College on Sunday. The men’s ice hockey team suffered a pair of ECAC East losses last weekend, and the ski team earned a ninth-place finish at the two-day Dartmouth College Carnival over the weekend.

The inaugural event was held on Saturday, January 24, and raised 520 food items for the Vermont Food Bank. The event also involved homemade chili from the women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's cross country, and volleyball teams.

The men’s ice hockey team finished the week 1-0-1, highlighted with a 2-1 upset victory over Trinity College on Saturday. The women’s ice hockey team also finished 1-0-1 last week. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams started the week with wins over Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, but both teams had setbacks against the University of New Haven at home on Saturday. The swimming and diving team suffered a dual-meet loss to Clarkson University on Wednesday.
