Remembering my friend Jack
Jack Kendrick was one of those people hard to ignore. He'd explode into your life or community like a whirlwind seeming to be everywhere at once, and then gone.
Jack died on March 9 at his home in Sweden, far from his hometown of Lake Placid. He squeezed every moment out of the day as if he feared there'd never be another. So, too, he seemed afraid of sleep both because something might go on that he'd miss and because in sleep his mind and body wrestled with the agony of all those lives lost, some painfully like sisters, nephews and nieces who died young, and others destroyed by alcohol.
Kendrick, a member of the Saint Michael's Class of 1954, was inducted into the Saint Michael's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. Read the entire story from the Lake Placid News on its website here (and via a permanent link on SMCAthletics.com here).
