COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting its inaugural 5K fun run and walk on Sunday to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event, which begins and ends at the 300s Field, begins at 9 a.m. and will take participants through a tour of campus.
Members of the local community and the Saint Michael's community alike are invited to sign up for Sunday's event, which costs $15 to enter, or $10 with a valid Saint Michael's ID. Preregistration is occurring all week in the Alliot Student Center, but participants can sign up the day of the race near the start line beginning at 8 a.m. Only cash or checks will be accepted. The start and finish line will be on the 300s Field, which is located between the Doc Jacobs Field Complex and the Tarrant Recreation Center/Ross Sports Center. Local community members have the option of submitting a completed registration form, which can be found at the top of this page, to SAAC adviser Shannon Kynoch, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Since 2003, NCAA Division II has been a national sponsor of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, raising more than $3 million - including $567,778 last school year alone - for the global charity, which grants wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. For more information or to make a donation directly to Make-A-Wish, visit wish.org/NCAADII.
Just this school year alone, SAAC has held numerous other fundraisers for Make-A-Wish and Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, supported active military, and taken part in Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Last month, SAAC members hosted a Spread The Word to End The Word function and read to elementary school students in Winooski as part of the National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America.
