COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College baseball first-year Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team, the league office announced on Wednesday. Hopkins was one of 17 selections - including nine position players - from around the league, as nine Purple Knights have now been recognized in the past six years.
Hopkins, who clubbed a pinch-hit double on the first pitch of his career on March 25, made 21 of his 22 starts out of the leadoff spot, appearing solely in center field. Aside from contests on April 23 and 27, Hopkins reached base at least once in 21 of his 23 appearances as a rookie, including beginning the spring by reaching in his first 14 contests, a season-best run by any Purple Knight.
Hopkins hit .296 while leading the team in on-base percentage (.408), walks (13) and doubles (9), as he came within one two-bagger of the program's rookie record. He added 11 RBIs, just two off the team lead despite missing six games, while scoring 11 runs and being hit by three pitches. In NE10 play alone, he batted .320.
Hopkins had three hits on three occasions, including while adding a double as part of a 3-for-4 effort in the second game of a doubleheader at fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University on April 28. He went 2-for-3 with a run and two walks during the opener of an April 8 twinbill at Bentley University and turned in a 2-for-3 day with a run, three RBIs, a double, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly during the first game of a doubleheader with Stonehill College on April 30. In the Purple Knights' season finale, Hopkins batted 2-for-5 with a run, three RBIs, a double and a stolen base, scoring the tying run with two out in the ninth inning of a 6-5, 10-inning win on May 4.
