COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College baseball first-year Alex Mendez (Fallon, Nev./Churchill County) landed on the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, March 11 following his team's opening games in Florida for Spring Break.
Mendez did not yield an earned run while allowing only four hits - all singles - over six innings in a hard-luck complete-game loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College, 3-1, on Sunday. In his first collegiate start, Mendez allowed an unearned run in the second inning before, in a tie ball game, the Warriors scored two more unearned runs on a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the sixth inning. He struck out three and walked two. Through two contests, Mendez has a 1.00 earned run average, allowing seven hits in nine innings while striking out five and walking four.
The Purple Knights are now 1-6 overall after beating the University of Wisconsin-Stout earlier Monday, and are slated to play again at 3 p.m. to finish out the twinbill. The Purple and Gold plays Wilmington (Ohio) College at 9 a.m. on Tuesday for a doubleheader.
