Aaron Plunkett returns to the Saint Michael's baseball program for his second season as an assistant coach in 2018.
In his debut spring of 2017, the Purple Knights fielded a 22-man roster that counted 14 underclassmen. Saint Michael's went 3-3 down the stretch, including winning a three-game series from Stonehill College to keep the Skyhawks from earning the final postseason bid in the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division. On the last day of the season, the Purple and Gold scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings against Saint Anselm College before winning 6-5 in 10. Drew Farris '19 led NCAA Division II by yielding only 0.47 walks per nine innings and taking fourth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.5), while Patrick Martin '18 was 11th in BB/9 (1.12).
A graduate of nearby Essex High School, Plunkett completed a degree in sociology at the University of Massachusetts in 2014. The southpaw pitched for four years at UMass, seeing time in 45 games, including 15 starts, while striking out 91 batters in 145.1 innings. Plunkett was a team captain and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative as a senior.
