Men's golf opens play at Saint Rose Fall Shootout, second New York tournament of week

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's golf team began competition at the two-day The College of Saint Rose Fall Shootout on Friday at Pinehaven Country Club, firing 335 strokes to stand ninth during its second tournament in New York this week. The second day of the nine-school event kicks off tomorrow at 12:15 p.m.

Sophomore Tucker Buteau (Gorham, Maine/Tilton School) led the Purple Knights by firing a nine-over 80, tying for 29th and coming within three shots of a logjam for 11th. First-year Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) is tied for 39th at 82, while sophomore Matt Byrne (Pembroke, Mass./Boston College HS) made his college debut by carding an 86. Senior Anthony Maiuri (Boxford, Mass./New Hampton School) was one shot back.
