GUILDERLAND, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's golf team concluded its second tournament in seven days on Saturday with The College of Saint Rose Fall Shootout at Pinehaven Country Club, where the Purple Knights claimed ninth place with 675 strokes. Le Moyne College won the nine-school meet at 609 shots.
First-year Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) had the low round for Saint Michael's for the fifth time this fall, firing an 82 to tie for 42nd in the tournament with a 22-over 164. Sophomore Tucker Buteau (Gorham, Maine/Tilton School) tied for 44th at 168, while classmate Mike Byrne (Pembroke, Mass./Boston College HS) concluded his first collegiate meet by tying for 46th at 169. Byrne's season-low 83 accounted for the ninth-best improvement in the tournament, as he trimmed three strokes off of his day-one total. Senior Anthony Maiuri (Boxford, Mass./New Hampton School) carded a 174.
The Purple Knights head to the Le Moyne College Fall Invitational for their third consecutive tournament in New York on Oct. 16 and 17. Day one action begins at 1 p.m.
