Johnson fires 71, ties for fourth on day one at Le Moyne Fall Invitational

CICERO, N.Y. - Saint Michael's College men's golf first-year Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) fired a one-under 71 to tie for fourth during the first day of the Le Moyne College Fall Invitational on Sunday at the Lake Shore Yacht & Country Club. As a team, the Purple Knights are 15th out of 17 schools with 323 strokes, trailing Goldey-Beacom (Del.) College by two shots for 14th.

Johnson's 71 was one stroke off the lead, and also one shot away from the personal best he set on Oct. 3 at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as that 70 was the fourth-best score in program history. Johnson is second among NE-10 players following day one at the Le Moyne meet. Sophomore Colin Gaunt (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) is tied for 27th at 76, one stroke off of his career low, as he sits one shot out of the top 15. Each of the Purple Knights' other three golfers - sophomores Tucker Buteau (Gorham, Maine/Tilton School) and Mike Byrne (Pembroke, Mass./Boston College HS) and first-year Tim Donnelly (Lynn, Mass./Malden Catholic) - recorded 88 shots on Sunday.

The Purple Knights conclude their third consecutive meet in New York on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
