COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey first-year Brandon Mitchell (North Scituate, R.I./Pomfret School) was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 7, landing the accolade for the second time this season. Sophomore Tim Decker (Liverpool, N.Y./Canterbury School) earned a spot on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.
Mitchell scored while going plus-1 in the Purple Knights' 3-2 overtime loss on Wednesday to Wesleyan University, which had suffered only one loss through its first 10 games this season. Mitchell's tally 2:16 into the contest gave Saint Michael's the first lead. In 10 games as a first-year, when he was also named Rookie of the Week on Nov. 13, Mitchell is tied for second on the squad with three goals to go along with an assist. Among the league's first-years, he is tied for third in goals and tied for 10th in points (4).
Decker made 34 saves while allowing only two even-strength goals in the 3-2 overtime loss to Wesleyan. He helped limit the Cardinals to a 1-of-5 power-play showing. A week after being named NE10 Goalie of the Week, Decker landed his fourth conference award this season. He is tied for first in the NE10 in wins (3) while standing second in save percentage (.916) and third in goals-against average (2.63). The netminder is 3-3-1 through seven contests, all starts, after making four appearances as a mid-year addition last winter.
At 6-6-1 overall and 3-2 in the NE10, Saint Michael's is one point out of first place. The Purple Knights next visit Assumption College for a two-game weekend series, beginning with a Friday match-up at 5:35 p.m.
