WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team kicked off a run of three straight road games in a six-day stretch by suffering a 13-3 loss at regionally-regarded Assumption College on Saturday at the Assumption Multi-Sport Stadium. The Purple Knights are 0-2 both overall and in Northeast-10 Conference play, while the Greyhounds, who are receiving votes toward this week's New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll, moved to 2-0 while playing their league opener.

Senior Brian Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) had a goal, an assist and two ground balls for the visitors, while junior Hunter Goodwin (Milton, Vt./Milton) and sophomore Alec Sharlow (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson) also scored. Senior Jake Sonberg (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made eight stops in the opening 36:32 before a pair of first-years followed, as Dominic Joy (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) had two saves in 16:43 and Herb Hazelton (Darien, Conn./Brewster Academy) played the final 6:45.

Senior Dan Dromeshauser (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) finished 6-of-10 on faceoffs with two ground balls, and sophomore Justin Richmond (New Market, Md./Linganore) was 5-for-8. Junior Matt Cotter (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) scooped four ground balls, while senior Neil Gallagher (Stowe, Vt./Green Mountain Valley School) collected two ground balls while causing two turnovers.

Sophomore Jason Hughes had a hat trick and two assists for Assumption, and junior Dan Farrell scored once while dishing off five assists. Sophomore Brett Jennings posted three goals and a helper, and junior Travis Reid had two goals and two assists. Junior Colby Hamwey turned aside 16 shots in 54:43 to nab the win.

Loughlin scored the game's first goal at 13:44 of the opening quarter before the Greyhounds responded with the next nine markers. Farrell scored the equalizer with 9:35 to go and dished to Hughes at 7:45 for a goal that ultimately gave the hosts a lead they would not relinquish. Hughes turned in all five of his points during the run, while Farrell added four.

Goodwin was assisted by Loughlin at 7:44 of the third period to stop the Assumption streak, but Reid scored twice off of Farrell feeds before the end of the stanza. Sharlow put home the Purple Knights' third goal at 5:17 of the fourth quarter off of senior Charlie Murphy's (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) team-leading fourth assist of the season.
