Men's Lacrosse Nets Third Straight Victory, Downs Post in Non-League Play

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team was triumphant over Post University, 12-3, on Tuesday afternoon on Duffy Field. The Purple Knights improved to 3-2, registering their third straight win, while the Eagles are 0-7. Saint Michael's is now 2-0 against Post in program history.

Senior Bobby Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) tallied his first career hat trick for the Purple Knights along with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior David Malota (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and sophomores Ralph Grillone III (Brockton, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) and Alec Sharlow (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson) each had two goals. Grillone also had an assist and three ground balls while Sharlow pitched in an assist and two ground balls. Junior Hunter Goodwin (Milton, Vt./Milton) turned in a three-point game with a goal and two assists while causing one turnover. Senior Charlie Murphy (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) contributed a goal and an assist with three ground balls and caused one turnover while classmate Johnny Karanasios (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) registered a goal.

Junior Connor McGuirk (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) handed out two assists with two ground balls as sophomore Will Moriarty (Ashland, Mass./Catholic Memorial) caused four turnovers. Senior Dan Johnson (Ringwood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) grabbed two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Sophomore Justin Richmond (New Market, Md./Linganore) scooped up five ground balls while going 7-for-8 on faceoffs with senior Dan Dromeshauser (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) going 8-for-9 on faceoffs, picking up two ground balls. Richmond pushed his career faceoff victories total to 120, passing Spencer Ralston '18 (119) for eighth in program history. Dromeshauser passed Gene D'Alessandro '01 (111) for 10th place with 114 career faceoff victories.

Senior Jake Sonberg (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) earned the win, making four saves and allowing two goals in the first 32:12 of play before first-year Dominic Joy (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) had one save during 14:37 and classmate Herb Hazelton (Darien, Conn./Brewster Academy) picked up three saves in a shutout 13:11. Hazelton also had three ground balls while Joy had one.

Senior Dominick Parente recorded two goals and two ground balls as sophomore Corey Auten added a goal for the Eagles. Senior Frank Nichols Jr. handed out two assists as sophomore Manuele D'Alessio collected 24 saves.

Parente tallied first at 7:42 of the first quarter for the Eagles before Frank answered back at 7:19. Grillone hit the back of the net at 5:02 before Auten tied it up with five seconds left. The Purple Knights went on a 6-0 run in a span of 4:19 during the second quarter, keeping the Eagles scoreless during that period. The first came from Goodwin with the help of McGuirk at 14:21 before McGuirk assisted again as Sharlow scored during a man-up opportunity at 13:30. That started a stretch of three goals in 28 seconds, with Frank scoring at 13:19 and the next coming from Karanasios at 13:02. Grillone and Malota finished up the first-half scoring with goals at 11:20 on a man-up chance and at 10:02, respectively, to put their team ahead 8-2.

Through the help of Grillone, Sharlow snuck one past D'Alessio at 10:24 of the third quarter before Parente tallied the Eagles' final goal of the game at 6:16. Frank topped his hat trick at 4:12 with aid from Murphy, and Malota registered a goal at 10:38 of the final quarter. Murphy finished up the scoring at 1:28 for Saint Michael's.

The Purple Knights host No. 7 Pace University on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a Northeast-10 Conference game. The Setters' ranking is according to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). They have also qualified for the last three NCAA Tournaments.
