COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's soccer first-year Chris Gallier (Bow, N.H./Bow) was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Sept. 23. Redshirt junior Gabriel Pineda (Miami, Fla./Immaculata-La Salle) and junior Jacob von Giebel (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon Regional) were chosen for the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this fall.
Gallier came off the bench to score his first college goal in the 48th minute of a 1-0 win at Saint Anselm College on Wednesday before drawing a start in the Purple Knights' 2-2 tie with regionally-ranked Assumption College on Saturday. In six appearances this fall, Gallier has made three starts.
Pineda started both games during a 1-0-1 week for the Purple Knights, turning in a 1.02 goals-against average and .800 save percentage. He denied five shots in the 1-0 victory at Saint Anselm before making three saves over the first 87:09 against regionally-ranked Assumption. Pineda is 2-2 in the Saint Michael's net, starting five contests and making another outing in relief. He is tied for eighth in the NE10 in saves per game (4.0) while already setting a career high in stops (24) and matching his career best in starts.
Von Giebel scored twice against regionally-ranked Assumption, tallying in the fourth and 48th minutes. With five goals in six games, including five starts, von Giebel has already set career highs in goals and points (10). He is tied for fifth in the NE10 in tallies and stands eighth in points.
At 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the NE10, Saint Michael's hosts The College of Saint Rose, which was ranked seventh in last week's United Soccer Coaches East Region poll, on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
