Rathwell claims second selection to NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College softball first-year Torie Rathwell (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, April 16, earning her second accolade of the season.

Rathwell batted .500 with a 1.000 slugging percentage, .600 on-base percentage, three runs, five RBIs, three doubles, a triple, a home run, three walks and a hit-by-pitch while picking up at least one hit in all six games last week. She hit 8-for-16 and struck out only twice in 20 plate appearances. In the circle, Rathwell posted a 1-1 mark and 2.62 earned run average in 21.1 innings over five games, including two starts, with five walks and nine strikeouts.

In a 5-4 win over Southern New Hampshire University, which was receiving national votes, on Tuesday, she was 1-for-1 with a run, an RBI, a double, a walk and a hit-by-pitch while allowing two runs on six hits in six innings of relief to nab the win. In a doubleheader against Merrimack College on Thursday, she was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple in the opener, a 5-3 loss during which she allowed four runs in 4.2 innings while taking the loss. During a 2-1, 10-inning loss in the nightcap, she was 2-for-4 with a double. In a doubleheader at Assumption College on Friday, Rathwell was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in game one, a 4-3, nine-inning setback when she allowed three unearned runs in 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. In the second contest, a 3-2 loss, she was 2-for-2 with two runs, an RBI, a home run and a walk while spinning three innings of one-hit, shutout relief. In a loss to the Greyhounds on Saturday, she was 1-for-3 with a double while allowing three runs - two earned - in four innings of relief.

Rathwell is third in the NE10 in slugging percentage (.667), tied for sixth in home runs (4), 15th in batting average (.333) and tied for 17th in extra-base hits (9). She also leads the team with 13 RBIs while having scored six runs and walked four times. In the circle, she has two wins, a 3.60 ERA, and 24 strikeouts over 56.1 innings. With four home runs this season, Rathwell has tied a first-year program record held by Kathy O'Neil '81 and Dawn Stanger '81, set in 1978.

The Purple Knights, who are 3-16 overall and 3-7 in the NE10, are at Franklin Pierce on Monday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
