Torie Rathwell Garners NE10 Academic All-Conference Honors

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College softball rising junior Torie Rathwell (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) was among 93 student-athletes across 10 sports selected for a Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference accolade for the spring athletic season.

Rathwell added to a list of accomplishments that already included her selection as Google Cloud NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1 and NE10 All-Conference this spring. One of 13 softball players from across the NE10 to land Academic All-Conference, Rathwell has earned NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades all four of her semesters at Saint Michael's. Purple Knight softball players have now been recognized with NE10 Academic All-Conference honors 17 times in the past 14 years.

Rathwell, who saw time as a pitcher, first baseman, third baseman and designated player, has batted in the heart of the order since arriving on campus, making 32 of her 33 starts hitting cleanup this year. She turned in a career-high 36 hits while nearly mirroring her first-year totals, with a .350 batting average, .553 slugging percentage, .362 on-base percentage, eight doubles, three home runs and 18 RBIs. She was 11th in the NE10 in slugging, 14th in batting, tied for 15th in triples (2), and tied for 18th in homers.

As a pitcher, Rathwell made 14 appearances, completing seven of her 12 starts. Over 73.1 innings, she struck out 28 and walked just 11. She was second in the NCAA Division II East Region in walks per seven innings (1.1), and 27th nationally. Thanks in part to her control, the Purple Knights were fourth in Division II and first in the East in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.4). Halfway through her career, Rathwell is ninth in program history in career homers (7) and 11th in doubles (19), one outside the top 10.

The NE10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR). To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average; and 3) completed at least one academic year at their current institution.
