  • Five From Saint Michael's Named To NCAA Skiing All-Academic Team

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Five Saint Michael's College skiers were named to the NCAA Skiing All-Academic Team, it was officially announced last month and posted on the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association website earlier this week. They are: senior Matthew Alexander (Richmond, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union - at left), sophomore Nigel Kinney (Chanhassen, Minn./Eden Prairie), and freshmen Laura Backman (Stockholm, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional), Ryanne Haskell (Holderness, N.H./Holderness School), and Joshua Lanney (Concord, N.H./Concord).
  • Skiing Great Carolyn Heald Babbitt '88 Honored By Pico Ski Club

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College skiing great Carolyn Heald Babbitt '88, a 1993 inductee into the Saint Michael's Athletics Hall of Fame, was honored with the Pico Ski Club Service Award, it was announced on Saturday. The Pico Ski Club, based in Rutland, Vt., honored Babbitt for her loyal dedication and commitment to the organization over the last two decades. She is the youngest person ever honored by the club.
  • Harden Records 19th-Place Slalom Finish At NCAA Skiing Championships

    BETHEL, Maine - Saint Michael's College junior Brad Harden (McConnellsville, N.Y./Northwood School) ended his outstanding season on Friday with a 19th-place finish in the men's slalom at the 2009 NCAA Skiing Championships, hosted by Bates College and held at Sunday River. The result is the second-best men's slalom showing by a Purple Knight at the NCAA Championships in program history, trailing only Keith Farnand's 13th-place slalom finish in 1998.

    BETHEL, Maine -- Due to harsh weather conditions, the men's and women's giant slalom competition at the NCAA Skiing Championships has been postponed for Wednesday. Saint Michael's College junior Brad Harden (McConnellsville, N.Y./Northwood School) will now compete in the giant slalom on Thursday beginning at 12:30 p.m., and in the slalom on Friday beginning at 9 a.m.

The championships will be held March 11-14 at Sunday River and Black Mountain in Bethel and Rumford, Maine, and are hosted by Bates College.

    BETHEL, Maine - The Saint Michael's College ski team finished the six-week Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) season on Sunday by placing 10th at the three-day EISA Championships, hosted by Colby College. The Purple Knights finished with 207 points at the meet, while Dartmouth College completed a sweep of the six-week season by winning the team title.

The carnival became a three-day meet, as Saturday's slalom events were pushed back until Sunday because of poor weather. Leading the way on Saturday was sophomore Nigel Kinney (Chanhassen, Minn./Eden Prairie), who finished 32nd in the men's 20-kilometer mass start.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The 2009 Saint Michael's College skiing season begins this weekend, as the Purple Knights' Alpine and Nordic teams open their season by taking part in the Bates College Carnival on Friday and Saturday in Maine. The Bates Carnival is the opener of the six-week Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) Carnival season, which culminates with the EISA Championships Feb. 27-28.
