Nordic skiing begins competition at UVM Carnival

STOWE, Vt. - The Nordic skiing segment of the University of Vermont Carnival occurred on Saturday at the Trapp Family Lodge, as Saint Michael's College now stands a combined 10th among 16 schools between the Alpine and Nordic disciplines heading into Sunday's final day. The carnival began with Alpine races in January.

First-year Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett) paced the men by claiming 58th during the 1.4K classic sprint in a time of 3:34.7, while junior Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) was less than three seconds back, taking 61st at 3:37.5. Sophomore Samuel Fogg (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) placed 64th as the third Saint Michael's finisher.

During the women's 1.4K classic sprint, junior Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) clocked in at 4:24.4 to place 59th as the initial Purple Knight to complete the race. As the first of five consecutive Purple Knights to finish, first-year Julia Snyder (Fairfax, Vt./BFA-Fairfax) was in 62nd thanks to a time of 4:32.3, and sophomore Elizabeth Cubberley (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) crossed at 4:33.4 in 63rd place.
