STONEHAM-ET-TEWKESBURY, Quebec - The Saint Michael's College Nordic skiing team opened its 2017-18 season with an unscored time trial against Laval University on Sunday at Forȇt Montmorency. The event came during the Purple Knights' November training camp in Quebec.
Among the 10 men competing on the 6K course, first-year Alex Warner (East Montpelier, Vt./U-32) was the first Purple and Gold skier to finish, taking sixth in 20:10. Sophomore Mitch McDonald (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) narrowly trailed at 20:15. First-year Sam Seeley (Center Harbor, N.H./Inter-Lakes) clocked in at 21:35, with junior Matt Doyle (Salisbury, N.H./Merrimack Valley) only two seconds behind. Sophomore Kevin Jeter (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) finished in 22:24.
Junior Amy Duclos (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) paced the Purple Knight women by taking fifth place out of 13 entrants, clocking in at 22:29, while sophomore Aimee Sala (Carrabassett Valley, Maine/Kents Hill School) and senior Emma Barnes (Amherst, Wis./Amherst) registered times of 22:41 and 22:49, respectively. First-year Ale Legate (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage) crossed the finish line in 24:23, sophomore Gianna Trono (Fairfax, Vt./BFA-Fairfax) was at 24:41, and junior Ellen Emers (East Hardwick, Vt./Hazen Union) notched a time of 25:08.
The Nordic skiing team next heads to the Colby College Carnival on Jan. 13-14.
