WALTHAM, Mass. - Three Purple Knights won events as the Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned from a nearly two-month break with a pair of dual-meet losses to Bentley University on Tuesday in the Dana Center Pool. The Purple and Gold women are 5-3 after a 176.5-92.5 setback against the 6-1 Falcons, and the 2-3 Saint Michael's men lost 161-96 to 6-0 Bentley.

The Purple Knights returned to action for the first time since Nov. 18, competing in their initial dual meet since Nov. 11. Today's action marked the beginning of a three-meet week, with each event occurring on the road.

Senior Spencer Ralston (Hebron, Conn./Cushing Academy) and sophomore Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham) both won their team-leading 14th event of the season, with Ralston capturing the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:27.58 and Hopkins topping the 200-yard backstroke field at 2:04.71, with Hopkins trimming 2.14 seconds off of his season best.

Ralston was also second in the 500 free, while he and Hopkins swam for the third-place 400-yard medley relay. The duo joined first-years Dan Fortier (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and Payton Stewart (Keene, N.H./Keene) on the foursome. Fortier, Hopkins, Stewart and sophomore Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) combined for a third-place showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Fortier claimed the runner-up spot in both the 50- and 200-yard butterfly races, with Mulderrig third in the latter while also placing third during the 50-yard backstroke and 400-yard individual medley.

Stewart was second in the 50 and 100 free events, trailing the winner in the 50 free by just 0.06 seconds. Senior Michael May (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) finished third during the 50-yard breaststroke, and junior Tim Kinville (Colchester, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) made his second debut by taking third during the three-meter dive and fifth in the one-meter dive, coming within 7.79 points of third in the one-meter event.

Senior Theresa Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) clocked in at 27.79 to win the 50-yard butterfly. She also helped a quartet place third in the 400 medley relay, joining junior Patty Kohn (Weston, Conn./Greenwich) and sophomores Lauren Giampietro (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) and Sarah White (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional).

Kohn was second in the 500 free while tying for second in the 200 free, and White placed second during the 50 back. Junior Meg Flanagan (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School/Boston College) took fourth, coming within 0.19 seconds of third. Giampietro finished third during both the 50 and 200 breast races, while senior Genevieve Gigandet (Groveland, Mass./Central Catholic) registered third-place efforts in the one- and three-meter dives, falling 1.94 points shy of second place in the one-meter event. First-year Meg Geschwind (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) was third in the 400 IM.

During the 400 free relay, Kohn aided a third-place foursome, siding with senior Sammy Sidorakis (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), junior Elizabeth Doherty (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and first-year Kristin Burlew (Springfield, Vt./Hartford).
