Purple Knights Win 27 Events While Sweeping Colby-Sawyer

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined to win 27 events while both downing Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday at the Ross Sports Center natatorium. The men notched a 138-31 victory while the women claimed a 188-66 triumph.

THE ACTION

  • Imbergamo won the 50-yard backstroke (27.96) and 200- (1:54.90) and 500-yard (5:23.09) freestyle races while joining McGurn, Prograis and first-year William Sullivan (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) on the top 200-yard medley relay (1:44.18). Sullivan was second in the 200 free as well as second in the 50-yard butterfly to Prograis (25.81). Sophomore Dan Fortier (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) trailed Sullivan by 0.02 seconds in the 50 fly.
  • Hopkins topped the 50 (22.17) and 100 (50.72) free and 100-yard individual medley (58.35) fields while joining Fortier, senior Jacob Sutton (Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsboro) and sophomore Payton Stewart (Keene, N.H./Keene) on the winning 200 free relay (1:38.83). Stewart was second in the 100 free while taking the runner-up spot in the 1,000 free to McGurn (10:51.91).
  • Kinville won both one-meter diving competitions, with 104.60 points in one and 153.35 during the other.
  • McGurn also claimed the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.35), with senior Seamus Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) second. Butler was second in the 50 breast, edging McGurn by 0.06 seconds.
  • Junior Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) won the 200 fly (2:10.76), with Fortier second and Prograis just 0.05 seconds behind him. Mulderrig was second in the 100 IM and 200 back, trailing victorious senior Pat Thornton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) during the latter. Thornton clocked in at 2:10.69 to win. Thornton was second in the 50 back, just 0.23 seconds short of Imbergamo.
  • In the 200 medley relay, Butler, Fortier, Mulderrig and Stewart all combined to take second.

  • White won the 200 free (2:07.20) and 50 (28.53) and 200 (2:23.30) fly races while joining Flanagan, Giampietro and Kohn on the top 200 medley relay (2:00.87). Kohn claimed the 200 back (2:14.99) and 1,000 free (11:11.98) while swimming with Flanagan, Grimaldi and senior Elizabeth Doherty (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) on the winning 200 free relay (1:49.32).
  • Giampietro won the 50 breast (33.44) and 100 IM (1:06.21) while taking second in the 200 breast. Grimaldi won the 50 free (26.85) and took second in the 100 free. Junior Reiley Adelson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) claimed victory in the 500 free (5:52.10), while first-year Maggie King (Clinton, Conn./Mercy) rounded out the winners by topping the lone one-meter diving (78.55) competition contested during her college debut.
  • Doherty was second in the 200 free, while Flanagan was runner-up in the 50 and 200 back races.
  • Junior Megan Reid (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) claimed second in the 500 free, while sophomores Leah Benoit (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), Kristin Burlew (Springfield, Vt./Hartford) and Megan Geschwind (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) were second in the 50 free, 50 breast and 200 fly, respectively.

NEXT SAINT MICHAEL'S MEET

  • Women host Merrimack College on Friday at 4 p.m.
  • Both teams head to Clarkson University next Saturday at 1 p.m.
