Men's Swimming & Diving Downs Saint Lawrence, Sweeps Swimming Events

CANTON, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's swimming & diving team won all 11 swimming events en route to downing Saint Lawrence University, 114-70, on Sunday at Augsbury Pool during its regular-season finale. The women lost a 128-76 decision to the Saints.

THE ACTION

  • Hopkins and McGurn joined sophomore Dan Fortier (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and first-year Nate Imbergamo (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.21). Hopkins also claimed the 100-yard backstroke (54.85) and 200-yard freestyle (1:53.38), while McGurn topped the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.82) and 1,000 free (10:42.30) fields.
  • Sullivan won the 50 free (23.26) and 100 free (51.63) while siding with Stewart, Sutton and senior Seamus Butler (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) to win the 200 free relay (1:37.92). Sutton also won the 500 free (6:09.85) for the first individual victory of his career.
  • Stewart also won the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.56) and combined with Butler, junior Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and first-year Myron Prograis (Etters, Pa./Cedar Cliff) to place second during the 200 medley relay.
  • Mulderrig won the 100-yard butterfly (57.48) - with Fortier second and Prograis third - while placing second during the 200 free, one spot ahead of Imbergamo. Imbergamo was second in the 100 back, and Prograis placed third.
  • Butler and Fortier picked up third-place finishes in the 100 free and 50 free, respectively. Senior Tim Kinville (Colchester, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) was second in one one-meter diving event and third in the other.

THE ACTION

  • Kohn won a solo event by claiming the 500 free (5:28.97) while working with Giampietro, Grimaldi and White to top the 200 free relay (1:47.47). Kohn was also third in the 1,000 free.
  • Giampietro had runner-up showings in the 100 breast and 200 IM, Grimaldi was second in the 50 free and third during the 100 fly, and White finished second in the 200 free and third in the 100 free.
  • The 200 medley relay foursome of seniors Elizabeth Doherty (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) and Meg Flanagan (Middletown, R.I./The Prout School/Boston College) and sophomores Leah Benoit (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Meg Geschwind (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) placed second.
  • First-year Maggie King (Clinton, Conn./Mercy) took second in one of the one-meter diving events, while Flanagan placed third in the 100 back.
