WINCHENDON, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team finished up its weekend series at Franklin Pierce University with a 4-1 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Winchendon School's Ritchie Ice Arena. The Purple Knights are now 2-6 as the Ravens improve to 3-4.
Senior Ashley Dineen (Somers, N.Y./Canterbury School) scored the lone tally for the Purple Knights while classmates Katherine O'Brien (East Sandwich, Mass./Tilton School) and Kaitlyn Wurzer (Lee, N.H./Berwick Academy) pitched in the assists. First-year Lucy Chin (Lexington, Mass./East Coast Wizards) denied 35 shots, the most of her career.
Sophomore Delaney Guimont led the Ravens with a goal, her first of the season, and two assists while first-year Nicole Amato had one goal and an assist. Senior Alex Brolsma and sophomore Alli Sugar contributed the other two goals as senior Madison Murray had 20 saves.
It was a scoreless first period until 15:51 as the Purple Knights scored first off of a Dineen tally from the low slot after Wurzer and O'Brien assists. The Ravens buried three goals within a 56-second span during the second period. Brolsma struck first at 4:52 from the bottom of the left circle. During a scramble out front, Amato snuck the second through Chin at 5:25 on a delayed penalty. During the power-play opportunity at 5:48, sophomore Bridgette Prentiss sent a pass from the right point to Guimont, who hit a one-time shot from the left point.
At 16:20, the Purple Knights went on a power play during which Murray denied two attempts to keep her team ahead by two goals. Sugar sniped the final goal for the Ravens at 10:55 in the third period from the right-wing circle.
The Purple Knights travel to Saint Anselm College next weekend for a two-game series, starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
