Madelena (Santore) DeThomasis '13, a former all-conference player for the Saint Michael's women's ice hockey team, returns to her alma mater for her first season as the top assistant coach with the 2018-19 season.
In a three-year career, DeThomasis registered 50 points and 32 goals in 62 games, landing Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East All-Rookie Team laurels in 2010-11 and an ECAC East All-Conference honorable mention nod in 2011-12. DeThomasis was twice an ECAC East All-Academic qualifier. She remains tied for fourth in program history in career goals and tied for eighth in points, as well as tying for first in game-winning goals (5) and tying for sixth in power-play tallies (7). As a rookie, DeThomasis set a school mark with 18 goals, with her 27 points that year still good for third all-time, and she added 10 more goals the next year. DeThomasis served as a captain in 2012-13, when she was limited to 13 games due to injuries in her final college campaign.
DeThomasis has coached girls through Chittenden South Burlington Youth Hockey and currently works as a librarian at Champlain Valley Union High School.
DeThomasis graduated from Saint Michael's in 2013 with bachelor's degrees in English and political science, having also minored in media studies, journalism & digital arts. She went on to complete her master's degree in library and information sciences from Rutgers University in her native New Jersey in 2016.
