Women's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Loss to Regionally-Ranked Saint Rose

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference matchup against The College of Saint Rose Tuesday afternoon on Duffy Field. The Purple Knights are now 3-4-1 overall and 2-4 in the NE10. The Golden Knights, who are fourth in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Region poll, are now 8-1-1 and 7-1. This game marked the first of three home games against regionally-ranked teams this week.

Junior Megan LeCours (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) picked up seven saves for the Purple Knights with the team holding Saint Rose to six shots in the first half. Junior Julianne Johnston and first-year Myah Hughes collected their first goals of the season for the Golden Knights. Sophomore Marika Laurendeau had three saves in 86:20 of play while classmate Chloe Borasky finished off the remaining minutes.

During the first half of the ninth minute, senior Abby Pelon (South Lyon, Mich./Ladywood) sent a shot from far outside the box toward the right side with the Golden Knight keeper making the save. The Purple and Gold defense allowed one shot to slip through during the 23rd minute with LeCours picking up the save.

In the second half during the 51st minute, Saint Rose sent a long free kick that connected with senior Roxana Hernandez, who hit a header with her back to the goal, sending the ball just left of the post. Sophomore Deanna Trongone sent a dangerous cross that her teammates narrowly missed near the right post during the 52nd minute. The Golden Knights struck at 65:17 as senior Totianyu Guadalupe sent a free kick from far outside the box from the right side, which was redirected by the head of first-year Theresa Derle to the head of Johnston, who headed the ball to the top left corner of the Saint Michael's net.

During the 74th minute, senior Andie Devaney (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) received a free kick cross from the right side of the box, heading it near the ride side of the net where Laurendeau got a touch on it to force a Saint Michael's corner kick. Off of the corner kick, sophomore Greta Ricigliano (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) hit a header that was sent just wide right of the goal. After a shot by sophomore Victoria Barris was saved by LeCours in the 84th minute, Hughes capitalized on the rebound, using her body to hit the ball to the left side.

The Purple Knights host Assumption College on Thursday at 2 p.m. The Greyhounds are fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.
