WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team squared off with its second regionally-ranked opponent in seven days on Saturday, losing to Assumption College, 9-0, at the Assumption Tennis Courts. The Purple Knights slipped to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Greyhounds, who are 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll, improved to 5-1 and 4-1.
Senior Amelia Weeks (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey) and sophomore Caroline Sumner (Needham, Mass./Needham) notched the most points by a Saint Michael's doubles squad, winning a pair of games at No. 2. Weeks nearly rallied to claim a victory in singles, ultimately falling by a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 count in the third position. Sophomore Abby Ramsay (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) lost a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 1, while Sumner won a trio of games from the fourth position.
The Purple Knights break until next Saturday, when they host The College of Saint Rose for their Senior Day match at 2 p.m.
