  • Chris Kilmer Promoted To Head Volleyball Coach

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College has announced that Chris Kilmer, an assistant coach for the Purple Knights’ volleyball team for the last three seasons, has been promoted to head coach. Kilmer, the eighth coach in the program’s 29-year history, replaces Emily Decker, who resigned last month after four successful seasons as head coach of the NCAA Division II program. Decker led Saint Michael’s to 28 wins in her four seasons, including an 11-victory campaign in 2006.
  • Volleyball Defeated In Season Finale By Merrimack, 3-1

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s volleyball team (7-21, NE-10 2-12) ended their season on Sunday afternoon at the hands of Merrimack College (17-12, NE-10 12-3) in four sets 30-17, 30-19, 28-30, 30-18. Seniors Leslie Herwig (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) and Kelsey Kobelt (Rye, N.Y./The Ursuline School) played their final match at the Ross Sports Center in a Purple Knights uniform after four years under Head Coach Emily Decker.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Despite a third game spark from freshman Sara Reney (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee Middle), the Saint Michael’s Volleyball team (7-20, NE-10 2-11) could not mount a comeback against the Dolphins of Le Moyne College (13-17, NE-10 7-7), falling in four sets 30-24, 30-23, 24-30, 30-18 on Saturday afternoon at the Ross Sports Center. The women play their final match of the season at home on Sunday, November 4 at 1 p.m.
  • Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss To League-Rival Bentley

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College volleyball team (7-19, 2-10 NE-10) suffered a 3-0 loss to Bentley College (19-8, 11-1 NE-10) in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday evening at the Ross Sports Center. Bentley, second in the NE-10 standings, earned wins of 30-14, 30-11, and 30-22. For the Purple Knights, freshman Emma Briscoe (Petersburg, Ind.) had a team-best eight kills and eight digs.
  • Smetana Named To NE-10 Volleyball All-Academic First Team

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College volleyball junior Stephanie Smetana (Independence, Mo./Truman) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic First Team, it was announced on Wednesday. Smetana is among the conference leaders in digs per game, and currently sports a 3.64 Grade Point Average in journalism and mass communications.

    MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College volleyball team (7-18, 2-9 Northeast-10 Conference) suffered a 3-0 loss at Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, falling 27-30, 28-30, and 19-30. Saint Michael's hosts its final three matches of the season, beginning on Friday with a 7 p.m. match versus Bentley College at the Ross Sports Center.

    SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College volleyball team (7-17) won its final match at the Skidmore Invitational Tournament on Saturday, edging Ramapo, 3-2 (24-30, 30-21, 30-16, 23-30, 16-14) to claim seventh place. Saint Michael's lost its first match on Saturday to Hamilton, 3-1 (28-30, 26-30, 30-22, 26-30). Saint Michael's returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Southern New Hampshire University.

    SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College volleyball team (6-15) dropped a pair of matches at the Skidmore Invitational Tournament on Friday, falling to the host Thoroughbreds, 3-0 (13-30, 21-30, 22-30), and losing to Saint Lawrence University, 3-0 (25-30, 20-30, 27-30). The Purple Knights conclude play at the Skidmore Tournament with two matches on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. versus Hamilton.
  • Volleyball Falls To Franklin Pierce In Straight Sets

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael’s Volleyball team (6-14, NE-10 2-8) fell to Franklin Pierce (14-12, NE-10 9-4) on Tuesday evening at the Ross Sports Center in straight sets, 30-28, 30-25, 30-18. Currently in 14th place in the Northeast-10, Saint Michael’s would have to make a run in their last four conference matches to qualify for the playoffs.

    WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College volleyball team (6-13, 2-7 Northeast-10 Conference) snapped a five-match losing skid on Saturday with a 3-0 win (30-22, 30-23, 30-27) at Assumption College. Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home match versus Franklin Pierce University at the Ross Sports Center.

Despite taking games two and three convincingly, Saint Michael’s lost the deciding fifth game 16-14 to drop their fourth straight match.

In the opener, the University of Massachusetts Lowell (5-10, 3-3 NE-10) defeated the Purple Knights, 3-0 (30-15, 30-25, 30-25), in a conference match. In the second contest, Adelphi University (10-4) bested the River Hawks, 3-1 (28-30, 30-27, 30-25, 30-18), and in the finale, the Panthers downed Saint Michael’s, 3-0 (32-30, 30-17, 30-17).

The Owls got off to a hot start but the Purple Knights rallied to take two sets in a row. Saint Michael’s could not maintain the momentum and dropped the deciding fifth game by just two points.
