Balanced attack sends Saint Michael's past Elms, Purple Knights finish 3-0 at Cardinal Classic

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College women's volleyball team finished 3-0 at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh's Cardinal Classic this weekend, downing Elms College, 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-13), during the final day of competition on Saturday at Memorial Hall Gymnasium. The Purple Knights moved to 6-2 and break until facing Norwich University for their home opener on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.

Junior Brianna Saunders (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell) paced the squad's balanced scoring effort with seven kills, while classmate Chelsey Covitz (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) turned in six kills and seven digs for a team that hit .475 in the match. Junior Jess McLeod (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) dished out 18 assists while collecting five kills on as many attacks, and first-year Kelsey Flaherty (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) dropped five kills and notched nine digs. Junior Maddie Gaughan (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) contributed three aces, classmate Cynthia Edgerton (Vail, Colo./Vail Mountain School) had nine assists, and sophomore Hillary Miller (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh/Colby-Sawyer) notched seven digs in a return to her hometown.
