COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's volleyball squad finished up its season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-16) Northeast-10 Conference loss to regionally-ranked Southern Connecticut State University, which sits eighth in the latest NCAA East Region rankings, at Ross Sports Center. The Purple Knights ended the season 1-18 overall and 1-13 in the NE10 as the Owls improved to 21-9 and 8-6.

Senior Megan Priester (Dover, N.H./Dover) collected six kills for the Purple and Gold, junior Gabby Ratte (Kula, Hawaii/Seabury Hall/Colby-Sawyer) also had six kills along with two blocks, and sophomore Tanner Barton (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls) added five kills and 10 digs. Junior Sarah Rodgers (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and first-year Katy Konow (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial) both nearly came away with a double-double as Rodgers tallied 14 assists and nine digs and Konow had 10 helpers and nine digs. Senior Julia Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville) finished up her career with 15 digs and sophomore Allie Statile (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) had three blocks.

Junior Alyssa Gage hit .579 with 12 kills for the Owls, classmate Leanna Jadus had a double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs, and sophomore Gabriela Vazquez pitched in six kills and 13 digs. First-year Kirstin Colwell notched seven kills while senior Alexandria Jurgens had 29 assists and seven digs.

After a Priester kill to open the first set, the Owls fired seven straight points behind two Gage kills. Saint Michael's scored two of the next three points, which included a kill by sophomore Jordan Dean (Gilford, N.H./Gilford), to put the score at 8-3. Southern Connecticut State went on an 11-2 run to push the lead to 19-5. A kill each from Barton and Priester aided a Saint Michael's 5-0 berth before the Owls finished the set with six of the final seven points.

The beginning of the second set saw six ties by the time three different Purple Knights tallied a kill to make it 6-6. Seven Purple Knight kills pushed a 9-4 run to give them a 14-10 lead, which eventually was extended to a set-best 21-16 on Barton's kill. However, Gage had four kills and a block during a set-ending 9-1 run.

Saint Michael's led 3-2 at the beginning of the third set before the Owls scored eight of the next 10 points to push ahead 10-5. Two kills by senior McKenzie McNamara (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) brought her team within 11-7 before the Owls answered with a 7-2 run. A Ratte kill and an Owl error put the Purple Knights behind 18-11 before the visitors scored the next three points and never again led fewer than eight.

Colasanti, McNamara, and Priester were all recognized prior to their final college match. Colasanti finished 15th in career digs (788), three shy of Lindsey Shumway '05 for 14th place. McNamara finished 11th in program history with 80 block assists while Priester is ranked 15th with 567 career kills.
