Women's cross country first-year Abby French named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's cross country first-year Abby French (Nashua, N.H./Academy of Notre Dame) was chosen as Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 9. It was her first major award after being named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll twice.

French placed 21st among 459 runners in 23:14 during the 6K James Earley Invitational on Saturday, taking first among first-years in the race. Her time was a PR, and she averaged 3:52 per kilometer and 6:13 per mile. As a team, Saint Michael's took 19th out of 41 schools. French has paced her squad at all four races this fall, and trimmed 1:03 off of her prior 6K PR, set only eight days prior to the Earley Invitational. She placed in the top seven at each of her first three meets, which had fields ranging from 47 to 135 competitors.

The Purple Knights compete next at the NE-10 Championship, hosted this year on the campus of Stonehill College, on Oct. 22. The men's race begins at 11 a.m. before the women follow an hour later.
