Five teams slated to play during Spring Break, pair of programs head to Florida

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Two Saint Michael's College Athletics teams are in Florida for Spring Break training trips beginning this weekend, while three programs play multiple contests in and around New England over the course of school vacation.

Softball plays 10 games in Clermont at The Spring Games, while men's tennis has six matches scheduled to be played in the Orlando area. On Sunday, softball's first day of competition, the Purple Knights take on West Chester University of Pennsylvania at 3:30 p.m., opposing a 2016 NCAA Tournament qualifier. Two of men's tennis' foes are ranked regionally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), as the Purple and Gold faces West Chester - ninth in the Atlantic Region - on Wednesday and Post University - seventh in the East - on Friday.

Baseball, men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse also are active during Spring Break. Women's lacrosse opens its season with three games, visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College on Monday and the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday before hosting nationally-ranked Adelphi University next Saturday. The Panthers sit first in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll after advancing to the last three NCAA Tournament champion games, winning the 2014 and 2015 crowns.

Men's lacrosse has a similarly challenging schedule, hosting Molloy College on Tuesday before visiting Pace University next Saturday. Pace is ranked 15th in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll, while Molloy is receiving votes. Baseball begins Jason Szafarski's first season as head coach next Saturday with a doubleheader at the State University of New York Maritime before returning to New England the next day to oppose Emerson College in a twinbill at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass.
