COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Department of Athletics and Department of Institutional Advancement are proud to unveil the third annual Purple Knight Challenge, a friendly fundraising competition pitting each of the 21 varsity Purple Knight athletic teams against each other between Oct. 1 and 7.
Alumni, friends, family and fans are encouraged to make gifts of any size to their favorite programs. At the end of the Challenge, the men's and women's teams that have had the most donor participants will each win an additional $500! Due to the generosity of donors, more than 1,500 gifts were made toward a total of nearly $74,000 between all 21 varsity athletic programs during last year's competition. The two teams that received the most gifts were field hockey and softball, while baseball placed third, and women's ice hockey, Alpine skiing and women's tennis rounded out a tight competition for the top six. Baseball and field hockey each claimed an additional $500 for their programs.
In terms of top dollar figures, men's lacrosse led the way with $8,310, followed by field hockey ($7,590), men's ice hockey ($6,475), men's basketball ($6,065), women's basketball ($5,155) and women's ice hockey ($5,030). Nineteen programs earned more than $1,000 to aid their student-athletes' experiences.
Over the first two years of the PK Challenge, more than 3,200 gifts were made toward a total of nearly $140,000, with all gifts directly impact student-athletes, offsetting the cost of things like recruitment, travel, uniforms, equipment, and so much more.
Get your friends and teammates involved via social media to aid the current student-athlete experience at Saint Michael's, or create your own challenge to leverage support for your team. Every donor will receive a handwritten Thank You note from a student-athlete. If you bring in three or more donors, you will win a Purple Knights T-shirt.
Thank you for your support of our incredible student-athletes and teams!
