Kara Lowe enters her fifth school year as a member of the Saint Michael's Athletic Department staff in 2019-20, and first as director of athletic internal operations after serving as coordinator of athletic facilities, student workers and events between 2013-14 and 2016-17.
Lowe oversees student employees and facility management, serves as the liaison for the club rugby programs, and plays a role in game day management. Lowe also facilitates all recreational programming for the Saint Michael's Accelerated Summer College program.
A native of Iowa, Lowe was the athletic facilities and events coordinator at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school year. Among her numerous responsibilities, Lowe managed the opening of a $20 million facility expansion and renovation, served as the liaison between Athletics and various campus departments, coordinated facility scheduling, oversaw business operations and transportation for all 21 Division III programs, and managed the student staff.
While pursuing her master's degree at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years, Lowe also served as the recreation facility coordinator. She coordinated operations and maintenance aspects of tennis and fitness facilities, a pool, as well as an equipment room, and was charged with event setup and breakdown for all athletic events. Additionally, Lowe hired, trained and scheduled 70 student employees to staff the facilities. Lowe completed her master's in public administration, with an emphasis in nonprofit organizations, in 2013. She has also been inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for students of public administration.
While an undergraduate at the AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, Lowe was an AIB Activities Center assistant between September 2008 and May 2011, as well as simultaneously interning in Drake's athletic department from January 2010 until August 2011. After earning her associate's degree in sports and event management in 2010, Lowe completed a bachelor's in business administration in 2011. A Dean's List honoree, she was a Presidential Scholar while working toward both degrees.
Lowe was also a women's basketball captain at AIB, which competes in the NAIA, while being heavily involved around campus. She was the Student Government Association's historian, the vice president of community service for the Business Management Association, and a Student Orientation staff leader. She earned induction into Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society which recognizes academic achievement among two-year college students.
