SMC To Celebrate National Girls And Women In Sports Day At Saturday's Basketball Doubleheader
COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day 2008 on Saturday, as the Purple Knights host a basketball doubleheader versus The College of Saint Rose at the Ross Sports Center.
All girls and women will be admitted free to the contests, as the Saint Michael's women host Saint Rose at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Saint Michael's men and Saint Rose at 3:30 p.m. There will also be contests, giveaways and prizes at the women's game.
The event is made possible by the generous support of Hickok & Boardman, Inc., Insurance Agency.
Now in its 22nd year, National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) honors the achievements and encourages participation of girls and women in sports. NGWSD will officially be recognized across the country this year on Wednesday.
The Saint Michael's women (11-8, 7-7 Northeast-10 Conference) are 10th in this week's NCAA Division II Northeast Region Rankings, and earned a 65-57 win at Saint Rose earlier this season.
The Saint Michael's men (6-12, 4-10 NE-10) have lost their last 11 contests, but feature the league's leading scorer and rebounder in senior Brian Monahan (Kinderhook, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy).
