Men's Lacrosse Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive With 13-9 Win At Assumption
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team (5-7, 4-5 Northeast-10 Conference) kept its playoff hopes alive on Saturday with a 13-9 win at Assumption College.
Sophomore Sean Leahy (Grainger, Ind./Saint Joseph's) tallied a team-high four goals to lead the Purple Knights, while freshman Peter Donnally (Madison, N.J./Morristown-Beard) added three goals. Senior Charles Seelinger (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded two goals and an assist in the win, while senior Zach Jandl (Brookline, N.H./Vermont Academy) stopped 14 shots for the victory.
For Assumption (4-8, 0-8 NE-10), Tom Guido recorded a game-high five points, on four goals and an assist. Kevin Klaskin added three goals, while Scott Vogel turned aside 11 shots in net.
The host Greyhounds opened the game strong, scoring four unanswered goals to end the first period and start the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead. Assumption still led by four, 8-4, following Guido's fourth goal of the game just 15 seconds into the second half. Saint Michael's slowly chipped away at its deficit, and pulled even at 9-all on a Donnally score 17 seconds into the fourth and final quarter. Leahy then gave the Purple Knights their first lead of the game with 10:13 to go, and three Saint Michael's scores in the final five minutes of play sealed the win.
Saint Michael's closes the regular season on Saturday, May 1 with a 3 p.m. home game versus Southern New Hampshire University on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.
