Best of 2014-15: Spring Highlights

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Here are some of the Saint Michael's College Athletics teams' highlights from the 2014-15 school year, concluding with the spring seasons.

March 17, 2015 – Seniors Nicky Elderton and Don McGuirl both pick up their 100th career hit during the third inning of game one of a baseball doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth. Classmate George Buteau follows suit on March 20.

March 25, 2015 – Sophomore Dylan Lavery strikes out 14 batters in just seven innings, four shy of a 35-year-old program record, during baseball’s 1-0 loss to Saint Anselm. Senior Michael Dougherty records his 100th career hit, becoming the fourth Purple Knight in nine days to do so.

March 28, 2015 – Men’s lacrosse trails 8-1 before rallying for a 12-11 win over Southern New Hampshire. Senior Matt Dromeshauser and sophomore Tom Fitzgerald both turn in a hat trick and an assist, and junior T.J. Bicknell makes 19 saves.

March 31, 2015 – Senior Courtney Piper becomes the 15th player in school history with 100 career points, collecting five goals and one assist during women’s lacrosse’s 12-10 win over Southern New Hampshire. Three other Purple Knights score twice. [Highlights by Monica Andreani '16]

April 1, 2015 – Sophomore Hayden Steward earns two wins during men’s tennis’ 6-3 loss at Le Moyne.

April 3, 2015 – Men’s tennis rallies from a 4-1 deficit to down Franklin Pierce, 5-4, with first-year Sam Costes’ first collegiate win clinching the victory. Juniors Sam Laves and Charlie Merry both win twice.

April 15, 2015 – First-year John Miller scores his first college goal with 56.3 seconds left in overtime to give men’s lacrosse an 11-10 win over Saint Anselm. Junior Daegan Goodman adds four goals. It is the Purple Knights’ first home overtime victory since 1993, two years before Miller was born. [Miller's OT winner]

April 16, 2015 – Senior Sarah Murray’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gives softball a 1-0 win over defending NE-10 Northeast Division regular-season co-champion Saint Anselm. First-year Danielle Brown strikes out eight while collecting her first collegiate victory and shutout. [Murray's walk-off single]

April 18, 2015 – Sophomore Drew Salk’s two-out RBI single in the 12th inning gives baseball a win, 3-2, at Bentley for the first time since 1993. Senior George Buteau adds three hits, and sophomore Alex Winkelmann earns the victory in relief. Junior Danielle DelGreco’s two-out RBI double in the ninth gives softball its second 1-0 walk-off win in three days, over Merrimack. First-year Danielle Brown fans a career-high 11 in the shutout victory. [Highlights by Monica Andreani '16] Senior Melissa Jaskiewicz breaks a tie with 15:49 remaining before sophomore Paige MacKinnon adds two quick goals, and women’s lacrosse defeats Southern Connecticut State, 12-10. Senior Courtney Piper totals three goals and four assists. [Highlights by Kristian Nammack '16] Men’s tennis knocks off AIC, 7-2, behind two wins apiece from juniors Sam Laves and Charlie Merry. Sophomores Patrick Dietz and Hayden Steward are also victorious during singles.

April 19, 2015 – For the third time in as many years, softball plays the rare tripleheader, falling once to Merrimack and twice to Bentley. During a 6-4 loss to the Falcons, sophomore Jessica Barnett goes 3-for-3 with two RBIs while drawing a walk.

April 21, 2015 – Junior Mark Yetter records four goals and two assists to help men’s lacrosse upset No. 10 Mercy, 12-9. First-year Matt Hanley makes a career-high 14 saves to pick up his first college victory. [Highlights by Monica Andreani '16]

April 25, 2015 – Senior Courtney Piper totals three goals and three assists, and women’s lacrosse downs Pace, 17-11, to clinch its first postseason berth in seven years. Classmate Melissa Jaskiewicz controls 10 draws while joining junior Steph Bonewald and sophomore Paige MacKinnon in netting a hat trick.
