Patrick Martin '18 returns for his second season as an assistant coach with the Saint Michael's baseball team for the 2019-20 school year.
Despite utilizing a roster that never exceeded 17 healthy student-athletes in 2019 - among them only nine position players - the Purple Knights set a school record for pitching strikeouts (232) while defeating such regionally-ranked squads as American International College, Assumption College, Franklin Pierce University and Merrimack College while winning a season series from Saint Anselm College.
Martin closed out his undergraduate career by pitching for the Purple Knights in 2017 and 2018, making 15 appearances, including nine starts. He logged 56 innings and walked only nine batters, helping Martin take 11th in NCAA Division II as a junior with 1.12 walks per nine innings. Prior to Saint Michael's, he saw time in six innings across eight contests in a pair of campaigns with Saint Joseph's (Maine) College.
A double major in history and secondary education, Martin has been a Dean's List student-athlete at Saint Michael's and was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. Martin landed on the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll during all four of his semesters with the Purple Knights after earning a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Academic nod as a sophomore at Saint Joseph's.
