Field hockey completes season with setback at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College field hockey team completed its 2013 season on Saturday with a 4-0 loss at American International College during Northeast-10 Conference action at Abdow Field. The Purple Knights finished 6-12 overall and 3-7 in the league, while the Yellowjackets moved to 8-10 and 3-7.

Junior Sarah Healey (Canton, Mass./Canton) had five stops for the visitors, as each team took nine penalty corners, while AIC had a 13-9 edge in shots. Sophomore Erica McLean (Branford, Conn./Branford) scored twice for the hosts, while junior Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) and first-year Taylor Ruscillo (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) also tallied. Senior Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) made six saves.

Healey made a pair of stops in the opening seven-plus minutes to keep the game scoreless before McLean netted the winner at 8:48. Shortly thereafter, Healey made an initial save of a Yellowjacket shot during a penalty-corner sequence before Masionis knocked home a follow-up attempt at 13:03. The Purple Knights began generating offense late in the opening half with four shots in the 29th and 30th minutes, but Huffman saved three, and one was wide.

McLean made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute before Ruscillo added to the lead in the 44th. Saint Michael's held a 5-4 advantage in second-half shots, but Huffman turned in three stops to keep the visitors scoreless.
