COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College field hockey senior midfielder Maddy Dobecki (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) has been selected to compete in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Game on Nov. 30 at Duquesne (Pa.) University at 3 p.m. during the NCAA Division II Fall Festival.
Thirty-eight players from Division II were chosen for the contest, including 17 from the Northeast-10 Conference. Dobecki is now the 18th Purple Knight selected to participate in the contest in the last 12 years.
Dobecki has started all 64 games since her rookie year, when she turned in three goals and a pair of assists en route to landing NE10 All-Rookie Team laurels while holding down a starting position in the backfield. After shifting to the midfield, Dobecki claimed an NE10 All-Conference second team nod as a sophomore before handing out seven assists and scoring two goals as a junior. This fall, Dobecki is one of the Purple Knights' captains and tallied against No. 1 Shippensburg (Pa.) University, which won its second consecutive national championship last fall.
Dobecki has helped Saint Michael's post a 1.63 goals-against average, approaching the 2014 squad's 1.62 GAA for the program's best since 2006. The Purple Knights are fourth in the league with a 1.25 GAA during NE10 play.
Saint Michael's, which has suffered each of its last 13 losses by two goals or fewer, is 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the NE10 heading into its home contest on Saturday against No. 4 Pace University at 12 p.m. The Setters' national ranking is according to this week's NFHCA poll.
