COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College field hockey senior captain Maddy Dobecki (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) landed a selection to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference second team on Wednesday, earning her second career all-league honor. She was among just 28 women named to one of the NE10's top two teams, with the league expanding to three all-conference squads this year.
Dobecki, who was among 14 student-athletes to claim a spot on the second team, also landed on the NE10 All-Conference second team as a sophomore and on the NE10 All-Rookie Team in 2015. Dobecki has already been chosen to appear in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Game on Nov. 30 in Pittsburgh. Purple Knights have now been all-league 10 times in the last five seasons, as the program has been represented with at least one all-conference honoree in 22 of the past 23 seasons.
From her position in the midfield, Dobecki had a hand in a defense that posted the second-best save percentage in NE10 play (.815) while aiding the offense with three goals, two of which came against nationally-ranked squads. Dobecki scored in a 2-1 loss to top-ranked Shippensburg University on Sept. 9, assisted against No. 4 Pace University on Oct. 20, and lent another helper in a 2-1 setback against NE10 Championship qualifier Bentley University on Nov. 3. Dobecki and the Purple Knight defense allowed two goals or less 12 times, as 14 of their 17 games were decided by two goals or fewer, including six by a single tally.
During her four-year career, Dobecki never missed a game, making all 71 of her appearances as a starter. She finished 10th in program history in games played as one of only 13 Purple Knights to see time in 70 games. Dobecki notched six goals and 14 assists, with a team-high seven of the helpers coming her junior year. Saint Michael's allowed two goals or less in 42 of 71 games during Dobecki's tenure.
