COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's golf junior Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the cycle ending on Monday, Sept. 10. This is the second straight week that Johnson has represented the Purple Knights on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Johnson shot a two-round 81-73--154 to tie for 19th out of 60 finishers at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational on Sunday and Monday. He was tied for fifth among competitors from teams that didn't qualify for last year's NCAA Championship. On Monday alone, Johnson tied for sixth place thanks to his 1-over 73, leaving him only four strokes behind the leader; each of the other seven players who shot 73 or better were from 2018 NCAA qualifiers. His 73 left him only three strokes shy of his low round of 70, which he shot at last year's Penmen Fall Classic. This was also the 23rd time in Johnson's career that he has broken 80. As a team Saint Michael's finished seventh out of 11 schools, finishing behind five teams that competed in last year's NCAA championship.
Next on the schedule for the Purple Knights is the Penmen Fall Invitational at Hanover (N.H.) Country Club next Monday and Tuesday. Competition will tee off at 8:30 a.m. both days.
