COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's golf junior Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, April 21. Johnson earned the laurel for the sixth time this school year.
Johnson tied for sixth among 68 golfers with a 1-under 71 on Friday at Southern New Hampshire University's Penmen Spring Invitational. He was one stroke off the lead - and his career low - while tying for first in par-4 scoring (3.80), tying for second in par-5 scoring (4.50) and tying for third in birdies (4). The second day of the event was canceled due to inclement weather. Johnson, who broke 80 for the 33rd time in his career, turns in a 74.3-stroke scoring average, having shot 72 or better seven times in the last 11 rounds. His 77.3-stroke average as a sophomore was the lowest by a Purple Knight in at least 12 seasons.
With the regular season now complete, the NCAA will announce qualifiers for the May 9-11 NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship on Friday evening. The regional takes place this spring at the Totteridge Golf Course in Greensburg, Pa., just outside Pittsburgh.
