COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's golf senior Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Golfer of the Week for the cycle ending on Monday, Sept. 9. Johnson is the first Saint Michael's golfer to earn this weekly award since John Goodwin '12 on April 20, 2012.
Johnson placed second among 75 golfers over the weekend at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational, including topping all NE10 competitors in the field. He finished 1-under 73-70--143 for the tournament, matching his career-low round on the second day while coming within one stroke of tying his career-low tournament score. Johnson's high placement came amid a challenging field, as six of the teams qualified for the 2019 NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship. Johnson has shot in the 70s in his last 13 rounds and has hit that mark now 38 times in his career. Johnson qualified for the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship in the spring, becoming the first Purple Knight to qualify for NCAAs. As a team, Saint Michael's was ninth out of 14 teams at Franklin Pierce.
Next on the schedule for the Purple Knights is the Penmen Fall Invitational at Canterbury (N.H.) Woods Country Club next Monday and Tuesday.
