COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's soccer first-year goalkeeper Tommy Coil (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Sept. 8, following his first two career contests.
Coil did not allow a goal during 90:17 of relief action last week in his first two college appearances, earning one win while making three saves. In a 2-1 overtime win over Saint Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) College on Thursday, he entered at halftime with his team trailing 1-0 before saving a 60th-minute penalty kick for his first college save - his only stop of the game - prior to the Purple Knights rallying to tie then win. In a 3-0 victory against Concordia (N.Y.) College on Saturday, Coil made two saves during a shutout second half.
Early in the season, Coil is among 25 NCAA Division II goalkeepers with a 1.000 save percentage and one of 27 with a 0.00 goals-against average. He has played the most shutout minutes among NE10 netminders.
At 2-0 for the first time in three years, the Purple Knights break until visiting Saint Anselm College next Tuesday at 4 p.m. for the teams' annual Community Cup fundraiser contest.
