Nate Frieberg, a Colchester native and University of Vermont graduate, returns to the Saint Michael's men's soccer coaching staff for his second season as an assistant in 2019.
Thirteen student-athletes competing in their first season of college soccer bolstered a young roster in 2018, when the Purple Knights started 3-4-1, including a 1-0 win over regionally-ranked The College of Saint Rose. Back-to-back 1-0 losses against Bentley University - the defending Northeast-10 Conference Championship titlist - and Southern Connecticut State University - a 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier - followed, as six losses by two goals or less came down the stretch.
A former all-state standout at both nearby Colchester High School and The Gunnery (Conn.) and member of the University of Vermont men's soccer team, Frieberg was an assistant coach for the past two years at Norwich University. He helped the Cadets go 23-8-9 overall and 12-0-7 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in that time, advancing to the GNAC Tournament championship game both seasons.
Frieberg founded the TPS Soccer Academy, which specializes in training technique, power and speed. During his five years as a coach with the Nordic Soccer Club, he led teams to state championships in 2014 (U14), 2015 (U14), 2016 (U13 and U15) and 2017 (U14)
