COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's tennis first-year Josh Weiss (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 6. Sophomore Michael Rosen (Andover, Mass./Andover/Saint Anselm) landed on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Weiss went 2-0 during a 7-0 victory over Regis College on Friday. He teamed with a new partner for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles before claiming a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 singles. Weiss now has a 5-2 record between singles and doubles, including 4-0 during dual matches. Weiss, who earned a spot on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 24, is the first Saint Michael's player to land Rookie of the Week since sophomore Constantin Krogh last Oct. 16.
Rosen finished 2-0 in the match against Regis. He teamed with a new partner en route to a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles before besting his singles opponent, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2. A transfer from Saint Anselm College, Rosen is 6-2 in his first season with the Purple Knights, going 3-1 at each singles and doubles, including 2-0 apiece in dual play.
The Purple Knights, who stand 2-0 overall, have a match against the University of Massachusetts at Boston on Boston College High School's courts on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
