HANCOCK, Mass./BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's Alpine skiing team scored fourth-place points on Friday during day one of the two-day Williams College Carnival, which concludes tomorrow. Between Alpine and Nordic races, the Purple Knight men and women are 10th among 15 schools in a meet that is holding its Alpine races at Jiminy Peak and its Nordic events at Prospect Mountain.
Senior Carl-Oscar Bredengen (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine), junior Fredrik Sandell (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine) and sophomore Brad Farrell (West Windsor, Vt./Sharon Academy) were all among the top 22 in the slalom on Friday, with Sandell leading the trio by tying for 14th with a two-run time of 1:36.58 after standing tied for 22nd after the opening run. Bredengen placed 16th at 1:36.60, and Farrell claimed 22nd in 1:37.46.
Senior Shannon Conroy (Auburn, Calif./Home Schooled) cracked the top 50 in the slalom for the third straight carnival, clocking in at 1:48.30 to place 43rd, moving up four spots from where she stood following her opening run of the day.
During the women's Nordic 3x5K freestyle relay, senior Silke Hynes (Burlington, Ontario/Milton District), junior Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and first-year Julia Snyder (Fairfax, Vt./BFA-Fairfax) claimed 16th place in a combined 42:48.4. Sophomores Elizabeth Cubberley (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) and Brianna McKinley (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) and first-year Catie Corrigan (Canajoharie, N.Y./Canajoharie Central School) were 18th in at 46:01.6.
On the men's side, junior Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) and first-years Ryan Boquist (Meredith, N.H./Inter-Lakes) and Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett) were 19th at 35:03.8. The Purple Knights' second trio was 20th, with junior Sam Hammond (Oakdale, Minn./North), sophomore Samuel Fogg (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) and first-year Cody Putnam (Alburgh, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) clocking in at 37:28.1.
