COLCHESTER, Vt. - A veteran-laden Saint Michael's College women's soccer roster welcomes a talented six-woman first-year class to a squad that played 13 games decided by two goals or fewer in 2017.

The Purple Knights played 13 games decided by two goals or fewer in 2017, and also allowed two goals or fewer on 13 occasions, including during a narrow 1-0 loss to Adelphi University, which was ranked eighth in the nation at the time ... four of top five point scorers return ... two goalkeepers who combined to play more than 84 percent of their team's minutes the last two years are back ... nine veterans with at least 13 career starts are back, among them eight field players ... 2017 team posted best save total in eight years, had highest save percentage in seven, and recorded lowest goals-against average in five.

KEY DATES
Saint Michael's opens the season by visiting Barry (Fla.) University on Aug. 31 and remaining on Barry's campus to oppose Saint Edward's (Texas) University two days later, marking the first two games in program history played outside New England, New Jersey or New York ... the Purple Knights open their home slate against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Sept. 4 before heading to Southern Connecticut State University on Sept. 8 for their NE10 opener ... three 2017 NCAA Tournament opponents appear on the slate this season, with the Purple and Gold hosting each: Adelphi (Sept. 22), which is 15th in the United Soccer Coaches preseason national poll; No. 24 Southern New Hampshire University (Oct. 13); and Franklin Pierce University (Oct. 24) ... the top eight teams in the NE10 begin postseason play on Oct. 30.
