SOUTH PARK, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team (15-7) saw the finest season in program history come to an end in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Thursday, as the Purple Knights fell at third-ranked California University of Pennsylvania, 5-0. Sophomore Lindsay Horne (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) earned three of the four games that Saint Michael's won on the day, as the Purple Knights were making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
COLCHESTER, Vt.- On top of compiling a record of 16-14 this season and leading the Saint Michael's College women's tennis team to their first ever NCAA tournament berth (Thursday, May 8 at West Liberty State College), senior Michelle Wood (Chatham, N.Y./Chatham) earned a spot on the six-person Northeast-10 All-Academic First Team on Tuesday. With a 3.23 grade point average, the Business Administration major will graduate in May after helping the Purple Knights to their highest win total in program history (15).
INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee has selected the teams and 16 first- and second-round sites of the 2008 NCAA Division II Womens Tennis Championships. Saint Michael's--receiving their first NCAA tournament berth in the program's 28-year history--will play the top ranked team from the Northeast region, California (Pa.). The 16 first- and second-round tournaments will be conducted May 8-9 or 9-10, with the winner of each first- and second-round tournament advancing to the finals in Houston, Texas, with the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority and Rice University serving as co-hosts, May 14-17.
SOUTH EASTON, Mass.- Freshmen Marybeth Ash (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) [No. 6 Singles] and Marran Ranks (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) [No. 5 Singles] were honored on Sunday for their stellar play in the first year on campus with a spot on the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team. Saint Michaels Colleges head coach Greg Cluff was also named the 2008 Northeast-10 Coach of the Year. Cluff guided the Purple Knights to a second place finish in conference play at 10-2 and advanced to finals of the Northeast-10 Tournament for the second straight season. The 15 wins this year also marks a program-record for the Purple Knights.

With the win, the Purple Knights will now take on top-seeded Bryant University for the NE-10 Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Stonehill College. SNHU finishes its season 8-6. Freshman Deahna Giguere (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) earned victories in both #2 singles and #2 doubles to lead the Purple Knights on Friday.
COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team (14-5, 11-2 NE-10) jumped all over the Hawks of Saint Anselm (6-7, 6-7 NE-10) Wednesday afternoon, running away with a 5-0 Quarterfinal win at the Saint Michael's College outdoor courts. After three double victories and a 45 minute rain delay, sophomore Catherine Dalton (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and freshman Marran Ranks (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) won their singles matches to secure a date with No. 6 Southern New Hampshire on Friday, April 25 at 3 p.m.

Freshman Marybeth Ash (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) earned wins in both singles and doubles action to lead the Purple Knights to their ninth 10-win season in the last 10 years. Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. match at American International College.
COLCHESTER, Vt.- The men's and women's tennnis teams both picked up wins over Pace University on Sunday morning at the Tarrant Recreation Center at Saint Michael's College. Junior John Lescure (Kennebunk, Maine/Berwick Acad.) led the men to an 8-1 decision with a No. 1 Singles win and No. 2 Doubles win. On the women's side, Saint Michael's knocked off the Setters by a score of 6-3.
RINDGE, N.H. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team (8-4, 5-1 Northeast-10 Conference) cruised to an 8-0 win at Franklin Pierce University on Thursday evening. Five different Purple Knights won in both singles and doubles as Saint Michael's remains just one match back of league-leading Bryant University in the conference standings. Saint Michael's next scheduled match (Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University at 12 p.m.) has been postponed, so the Purple Knights will return to action on Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. home match versus Pace University.
COLCHESTER, Vt.- Catherine Dalton was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week after advancing to the Quarterfinals of the Women's ITA at Bloomsburg University, winning three matches in straight sets (6-1, 6-1|6-2, 6-0|6-3, 6-1). Dalton also reached the semifinals of the B doubles competition. Mary Beth Ash was named Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week for advancing to the Semifinals of the Women's ITA at Bloomsburg University with four straight set victories (8-0|6-1, 6-3|6-0, 6-1|6-3, 6-4) before falling 2-6,6-4,10-7 in the fifth round.
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. The Saint Michaels womens tennis squad traveled to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania this weekend for the Division-II Intercollegiate Tennis Association Eastern Regional Tournament. Six players competed in both singles and doubles play for the Purple Knights. Freshman Marybeth Ash (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) and Catherine Dalton (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) led the way, each with quarterfinal berths in the B Singles competition.
