Men's cross country claims VTC Invitational title behind four top-10 finishes

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. - Four top-10 individual showings propelled the Saint Michael's College men's cross country squad to the team victory during the eight-school Vermont Technical College Invitational on Saturday. The Purple Knights scored 34 points to outdistance second-place Naval Academy Preparatory School (54).

Junior Peter McKenna (Cohasset, Mass./Brooks School) clocked in at 30:20 to place second in the 8K race, while classmate Alex Gilgore (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville Senior) claimed fourth place at 30:32, just 0.99 ticks short of third. First-year Matthaus Ayers (Springfield, Ohio/Chaminade Julienne Catholic) placed seventh in 30:59 during his college debut, and senior Dana Glubiak (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) was ninth at 31:42.

Rounding out the Purple Knights' top five was junior Erik Hoiseth (Watertown, Mass./Watertown), the 12th runner to cross the finish line thanks to a time of 32:15. He edged out first-year Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett), who was 13th in 32:21, and first-year Cody Putnam (Alburgh, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans), who took 14th at 32:22.

The Purple Knights next compete on Sept. 28 alongside the women's squad at the Vermont Intercollegiate Championship, hosted by Castleton State College at 12 p.m.
