Nine Purple Knights Set PRs, Cross Country Teams End Year at Regionals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Saint Michael's College women's cross country team took 15th place at the NCAA East Regional Championship on Saturday at Belmont Plateau while the men claimed 22nd, as both squads concluded their seasons. Nine of the College's 12 competitors set personal records during their races.

TEAM RESULTS

  • The Purple Knight women claimed 15th place among 27 schools, registering their best finish at regionals since taking 14th in 2016. This was their fourth consecutive top-20 placement. With 430 points, they edged out Northeast-10 Conference counterpart The College of Saint Rose (439) while easily outdistancing 17th-place Le Moyne College (464), which had finished 47 points and two spots better than Saint Michael's at the NE10 Championship on Oct. 27.
  • The Saint Michael's men finished 22th out of 27 squads with 630 points, trimming NE10 foe Pace University by four points.
  • All five Purple and Gold men set personal records, while four women followed suit.
  • The Stonehill College women, who are ranked second in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region poll, won with 26 points. The Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College men, who are ranked 25th nationally and first in the region, won with 55 points.
  • Saint Michael's embarked on its longest road trip to regionals since 1998, when the meet was held at Slippery Rock (Pa.) University, which was also the last time the Purple Knights competed in an NCAA East Regional Championship in Pennsylvania.
